~ Getting Through The Day ~

As I journey through this life
It's sometimes dismal as can be,
Until I cast my eyes toward nature and others
Then some courage and beauty I see.

When I feel there is nothing left
And I can't take one step more,
I think of my family, friends, the needy
And there are reason galore.

When I think of my painful past
Oh, so depressed I become,
Then I turn toward my achievements
And the battles I have won.

When I feel badly about myself
and my self-esteem hits the pits,
I know depression is a liar
And I just can't call it quits.

When I feel empty, adrift, lost , in prison
Isolated from everyone, so distant, so far,
Running away from life, accused of treason.
I'm so afraid...The pain of loving has left it's scar.

That's when I get out and make a friend
Someone to walk the shadows with me,
Someone kind with an ear to lend
Until the sunshine I can see.

When I am lonely
And there's no one to understand,
That's when I pick up the phone
And ask for a helping hand.

***********

Now my life has more meaning
Although deep I have to search.
By helping others I feel better
And it soothes the spirit that hurts.

A better way if living
Is what I find,
If I keep tabs of my attitude
And what lingers on my mind.

Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow hasn't come
Today's hills are all I can climb,
I find the journey is so much smoother
When I live it one day at a time.
